By Anthony “Stacks” Saldaña
540 days after Covid halted live fans from enjoying the Thompson Boxing Promotions series”Path to Glory” Saturday night on a warm summer evening at Omega Products International it was back with a bang as local prospect and South Central’s own undefeated 22-year old Mexican American, Ruben “Ace” Torres (16-0, 1 KO’s) extended his unblemished winning streak with a victory over the Mexican veteran Richard “Diamante” Zamora (19-4, 12 KOs), on their “We Are Back” card. From the opening bell Torres used his reach and shotgun like jab to connect early and often on Zamora hurting him with a solid left counter shot. The second round saw much of the same as Torres completely dominated Zamora with vicious combinations. Zamora had spurts throughout the fight but in the 5th Torres caught his opponent with a series of uppercuts knocking Zamora out at the 2:17 mark of the 5th round. After the fight Torres stated “I’ve missed this energy of the crowd tonight, I have a great team around me always encouraging more to do my best, including my stablemates Michael Dutchover who pushes me daily. I’m going to just keep working and I have a 100 percent faith in my team and now I hope to crack the top ten. I hope everyone enjoyed the fights and it’s time keep climbing the rankings”
