Ruben “Ace” Torres Headlines Thompsons “We Are Back” Card Saturday Night

By Anthony “Stacks” Saldaña

South Central’s undefeated 22-year old Mexican American, Ruben “Ace” Torres (15-0, 12 KO’s) looks to extend his unblemished winning streak this Saturday night under the stars in Corona, California as Thompson Boxing Promotions brings fans of the sweet science an action packed night of fights headlined by Torres, as he goes up against the explosive Richard “Diamante” Zamora (19-4, 12 KOs), on their “We Are Back” event with fans in attendance at Omega Product International. “We are happy to announce that we can finally open safely to the public. We were able to successfully promote our shows during this tough time through our live streams,” said Ken Thompson of the 321 Boxing series that launched in July of 2020, and went on to say “It is the fans who make each event unique with the atmosphere, they bring that extra motivation to the fighters. This will surely be a sold-out show and I can’t wait to see everyone having a great time, enjoying great fights.”

Torres who fought three times last year, will make his 2021 debut with fans in attendance for the first time at a Thompson show in 540 days. In a recent interview Torres stated “It’s going be amazing headlining the card this Saturday night, I have a lot of friends and family who support my dreams of one day becoming a world champion and having them in attendance will be extra motivation for me. I love the way Thompson sets up shows for the fans and having them back in attendance will be a great spark for me.”

Torres however will have a savvy battle tested Mexican veteran in front of him when he enters the ring against Zamora. “He’s tough” stated Torres. “He has a predictable style, but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. Zamora does a lot of good things in the ring and that’s the sign of a good fighter. I am excited about this fight because this opponent brings a lot to the table,” Torres continued. “He’s fought Mario Barrios, Antonio Moran, and many other great fighters and I want to show that’s the level I’m on, so I know I have to stay sharp to come away victorious.”

Torres who trains under the tutelage of Danny Zamora has quickly climbed the ladder of the rankings in the Lightweight division and understands the importance of Saturday’s fight “I know I am right there for a top-15 ranking and a fight on a major network, and I have a great promoter in Thompson Boxing, so I am very focused on what I need to do on my end. I can feel the big moment coming, but I am not getting ahead of myself. I’m very close to the fight I’ve be waiting for and I am looking to make a statement in this bout. I’m 100 percent focused and camp has been great, I’m very motivated, and I’m staying very focused in the gym. Every opponent I face from this point on will see me as an opportunity to better their career, and I’m not going to let that happen. My coach Danny Zamora and I have been sharpening up all my God given tools, and I can see the progress being made. I’m in great shape, ready to do damage.”
