ONTARIO, CALIF. — This Friday February 16th, Thompson Boxing Promotions brings its fight series “Path to Glory” back to the Inland Empire. The Double Tree Hotel will play host to one of the hottest boxing series Southern California has to offer. Headlining this great event is the once beaten NABF Featherweight titleholder Erick Ituarte (19-1-1, 3 KO’s) of Santa Ana, California as he defends his title against the battle tested veteran Jose Ramirez (27-6-2, 16 KO’s) of Mexico in a 8 round bout.

Ituarte, who won the NABF title last May in a split decision victory over Issac Zarate, will look to move one step closer to a world title with a victory over Ramirez. Supreme Boxing recently asked Ituarte about his upcoming bout and he stated:

“I had a great camp. I sparred with Saul “Neno” Rodriguez and Ronny Rios to help me get ready. I feel really good and I’m ready to fight,” Ituarte said.

In the co-main event, undefeated featherweight prospect Ruben Villa (9-0, 4 KO’s) of Salinas, California will put his unblemished record on the line against fellow southpaw and veteran Ruben Tamayo (26-11-4, 18 KO’s) of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico. Tamayo is a savvy veteran and has been in the ring with the likes of Joseph “JOJO” Diaz, Oscar Valdez and Jesus Cuellar just to name a few. This will be the toughest challenger to date for Villa. Last October, Villa traveled to Verona, New York and captured a huge win over another veteran German Meraz at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino on the non-televised portion of an HBO Boxing After Dark card that was headlined by Alberto Machado vs Jezreel Corrales.

Also on the card, is So. Cal favorite, super bantamweight Isaac Zarate (13-3-3, 2 KO’s) of San Pedro, California, as he steps in the ring against Mexico’s Christian Ayala (12-1, 4 KO’s). Zarate who is coming off a draw but holds a recent win against former world title challenger Carlos Carlson looks to get back on track with victory Friday night.

Newly signed undefeated boxing prospect Saul Sanchez (6-0, 4 KO’s) will also be showcased against a fighter to be named later. Sanchez, 20, is trained by Joel Diaz and managed by Steve Martini and is coming off an impressive knockout win over Nestor Ramos last October. It was devastating one-punch knockout in the opening round.

“This is what I’ve been working toward my whole life,” said Sanchez, who had a 90-18 record as an amateur. “I’m extremely thankful to everyone at Thompson Boxing for giving me this opportunity. I’ve earned it through hard work and I’m going to continue to dedicate myself to the sport.”

Other Bouts Include;

Super Lightweights: Ruben Torres (3-0, 3 KO’s) vs Marco Antonio Resendiz (2-1-1)

Super Bantamweights: Mario Hernandez (4-0, 1 KO) vs Francisco Javier Lapizco (8-6, 2 KO’s)

Lightweights: Zhora Hamazaryan (8-0, 6 KO’s) vs TBA

As part of the event Thompson Boxing Promotions will be holding a fundraising raffle for boxer Daniel “Twitch” Franco. Franco, who is from nearby Rancho Cucamonga, California, suffered a significant brain injury in June when he was knocked out in the eighth round by Jose Haro. Since then, Franco has undergone multiple brain surgeries. His recovery is progressing well, but Franco and his family are beset with mounting medical and rehabilitation bills.Thompson Boxing will match the total that is raised by the raffle and promoter Ken Thompson respectfully encourages other promoters to help in any way they can. Prizes for the raffle will be announced as the event draws closer.
