BROOKLYN — After a quick night of work in what should have been Luis Ortiz across the ring, Deontay Wilder retained his world heavyweight championship as he stopped Bermane Stiverne on the latest edition of SHOWTIME Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center.

Essentially, the two best heavyweight fighters are IBF and WBA world champion Anthony Joshua, and Wilder, who holds the WBC world title. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has stated that Wilder should fight Dillain Whyte first before stepping into the ring with Joshua. Wilder was not a fan of this idea and strongly conveyed to Showtime commentator Jim Gray that he doesn’t need to do that.

“They trying to give me a peasant, as in Dillain Whyte, but they don’t want to put Joshua on that contract,” Wilder said. “Why should I go to England to fight a peasant without the king on the contract?”
