LAS VEGAS — Joseph Diaz, Jr. now has a new opponent for Saturday’s undercard bout as his opponent, Jorge Lara, has reportedly injured his back in training and cannot participate in the WBC world title eliminator matchup.

First reported by ESPN, the winner of this bout would have secured a shot at current WBC featherweight world champion, Gary Russel, Jr. Lara (29-0-2, 21 KOs) was said to have hurt his back while trying to make weight for this bout. Diaz Jr. will now fight Rafael Rivera (25-0-2, 16 KOs), who was coincidentally training for a scheduled fight next week in Ontario, California. As of this writing, the WBC has not yet announced plans to sanction this new bout as a world championship elimination.
