Diego De La Hoya vs Randy Caballero Almost Finalized

In a late afternoon phone call with Pablo De La Hoya father of WBC Youth Super Bantamweight and undefeated Golden Boy Prospect Diego De La Hoya (19-0, 9 KO’s). Pablo confirmed to Supreme Boxing that Diego and his team have negotiated with the President of Golden Boy Boxing Eric Gomez and have come to an agreement to fight the former IBF World Bantamweight Champion and current undefeated NABF Super Bantamweight Champion Randy Caballero (24-0, 14 KO’s). “This is a fight the people wanted and now they’re going to see who Diego really is” Stated Pablo.

The fight between Caballero and De La Hoya will be broadcast on the PPV portion of the Canelo vs GGG card September 16th.  Last night in an interview with Caballero it was revealed that the De La Hoya Camp had initially turned down the fight. “Both of our camps had discussed the fight, and I’ve been up for this fight, and when they asked if I wanted it, I accepted the fight. Golden Boy contacted me and didn’t give me any explanation or a reason and I didn’t ask why, but Diego’s camp refused the fight.” Stated Caballero.

After the story was released Pablo De La Hoya reached out to Supreme Boxing to clear the air. “We went into negotiations and wanted a certain amount of money and Golden Boy countered with a very low offer, we didn’t accept it but we’ll go back into negotiations tomorrow” said Pablo. Pablo went on to state “This is a huge card and the money we want is there for both fighters.”

On our phone call this afternoon with Pablo after he confirmed the fight would take place, he stated “Diego is taking this fight serious, it’s what he wanted, Diego has sparred Caballero several times in Indio and in Mexicali and Diego’s skills in the ring will speak for him. Diego isn’t a trash talker he’s a fighter and ready to go out and get another victory.”

Supreme Boxing also reached out to Randy Caballero to confirm the fight would take place and as of this afternoon Golden Boy had not contacted Caballero. “No one has come back with a contract to sign” stated Caballero. “I’m already in camp, because if Diego doesn’t want to fight I’ll be fighting on ESPN the night before the Canelo vs GGG fight. Of course I want Diego, I’ve sparred him and I know Diego well, hopefully tomorrow I’ll sign the contract, this is the fight everyone wants but can’t control their team.”
